Disclosure of climate-related financial risks (EN)
Executive summary
The BCBS Climate Pillar 3 is a voluntary framework that integrates both qualitative and quantitative information.
From a qualitative perspective, it proposes the disclosure of information related to governance, strategy and management of risks associated with climate risk factors. The BCBS also proposes the disclosure of a series of quantitative templates with relevant information on banks' exposure to transition and physical risks.
Although the framework is not binding and has no defined implementation date, the BCBS will monitor its implementation and potential future developments in other jurisdictions, and determine whether it needs to be revised.
Main content
- Qualitative disclosure requirements. The BCBS proposes two tables, one relating to qualitative information on governance, strategy and risk management, and a second table relating to information on transition risk, physical risk and concentration risk management.
- Quantitative disclosure requirements. The BCBS proposes the presentation of four templates that collect key metrics on climate risks: three focused on transition risk and one on physical risk. These templates cover the disclosure of exposures and financed emissions by sector, exposures subject to physical risk by geographical area, mortgage exposures classified according to energy efficiency level, and emissions intensity per unit of physical output and by economic sector.
