The iDanae Chair (where iDanae stands for intelligence, data, analysis and strategy in Spanish) for Big Data and Analytics, created within the framework of a collaboration between the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and Management Solutions, held a Speech and Debate contest on Data Science

The tournament, aimed at students and researchers with no previous experience and an interest in learning about and discussing data science-related issues, was organized into two initial classical academic debate sessions from which the finalist teams were selected. These sessions discussed (i) the need to regulate the development of Data Science projects, and (ii) whether Big Data can improve society.

The contest's final took place in the Assemby Hall at UPM's Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers, challenging the finalist teams under the brief "Is the democratization of Data Science processes necessary?". The winner was the team formed by Carla Arroyo, Alvaro Villadangos and Sergio Gil.
