As part of the Order’s 800th anniversary, the Spanish Mercedarians have prepared "Redentores de Cautivos", a documentary directed by Salvador Gutiérrez and José A. Capote that shows the welfare and support work with victims carried out by missions in hostile territories (in countries such as Cameroon, Burundi or Rwanda - where the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis took place and where the Mercedarians’ work in this connection was granted the Prince of Asturias Communication and Humanities award that same year). The documentary also has a charitable purpose, since all profits will go towards the Education and Freedom project run by the Mercedarian Order in the Sangmélima prison, in southern Cameroon, to provide food, hygiene and educational aid to more than 300 families (prisoners and their families).
Thanks to the support provided by Management Solutions, the documentary will be screened at the Kinépolis cinemas in Madrid on April 1 at 8PM.
